The summer is almost over but some of you are still in vacation and besides your normal activities, some of you play mmorpg games. While there are many out here, not all people like the subscription models, so they play free mmorpg games. They are not exactly free because they all have shops that can offer you an advantage if you buy special items from there, but it’s not mandatory and in some, it’s not necessary at all if you know what you’re doing. Developers must get money someway in order to maintain the servers and the game, so that’s why we have the shops.
Below we made a list with the top 10 free mmorpg games we found for you guys. We will update this list from time to time, and some received or will receive detailed reviews.
1. Requiem
Requiem is promoted as a mature horror mmorpg, and while it’s dark and bloody, it could be played by kids with age of over 14 or even less, but in our society, seeing people getting shot at the TV at the 20.00 News seems to be ok, but if you play a game where there is some blood and maybe some female breasts, it’s mature, bloody and horror ...Anyway, let’s carry on
Requiem is one of those decent fantasy, horror free mmorpg game that is well made, in terms of movement, interface, dialogues, quests, and fighting. At first I thought it’s just an Asian mmorpg, but it’s not. It is ready for western mmorpg games market. Not sure if it was developed in Europe or US, or was made by Asian Devs for West market.
The game offers a good keyboard and mouse movement, good interface, good level design keeping you in the horror theme, ranging from monsters, mucho blood, and satisfying combat, and decent quests. We also have what they call unique features, a Possession Beast System is a feature that can endow characters with immense power and abilities to survive difficult situations or to speed up hunting; Nightmare Monsters that appear at night and require a party to defeat and a DNA system where each character can upgrade the strengths of its job, or minimize its drawbacks, by using the DNA system. Users can control the evolution of their characters by reorganizing its DNA. This customization option allows a variety of possible character builds sharing the same race and job.
2. Mabinogi
Step into the realm of living fantasy, Erinn, Mabinogi’s fantasy world based on Celtic mythology is brimming with fantastic opportunities and endless possibilities.
Mabinogi is a free mmorpg game that with its simplicity comes with many original and simple features, making the game very interesting to play. Simple activities and high control over you avatar skills, job system where you help townsfolk with their daily life, these features deliver a fun experience and a new approach in some ways. Unfortunately it’s only available in the US for now , but it might be released in other areas too.
3. Atlantica Online
Currently in closed beta, this free mmorpg game shows a lot of potential, by having a turn-based combat similar to the one in Final Fantasy series, good graphics, and good features, from pvp combat to something similar to the tome of knowledge in Warhammer Online.
4. RF Online
RF Online is an epic mix of traditional fantasy mmorpg game and unique futuristic sci-fi action to bring an entirely new and original take on the existing mmorpg genre. As a player you get to choose from 3 factions, where one is particular interesting because they are robots. The most interesting feature in this mmorpg game is that all your skills grow while you use them. Want to be good with a ranged gun, well use it until you get proficient with that item, and so on and so forth. It brings lots of grind but it’s interesting since the world is very well done in terms of graphics and location, and we also have a mass pvp feature.
5. Anarchy Online Classic
AO is one of the oldest mmorpg games on the market, one of those that offers you complete control over your character, and at the same time it’s somewhat more complex than your average mmorpg game, but after you master it, you might love it. It’s not very friendly but a good experience. Offers interesting features from possibility to have a car, or even a small hover craft, random mission generator, if you want to use it, territory battles, tons of dungeons, and the basic features of p2p mmorpg, but well made.
6. Saga
Saga is persistent and played online in a massively-multiplayer environment. Every building you build, troop you buy, and piece of land you conquer remains with you as long as you play the game. That means every time you fight your friends, you won’t have to rebuild your castle from scratch.
What it interesting about this mmorts game is that you start from the beginning by building over your land, building to boost your economy or your peasant population, and also your combat units level. The latter can be equipped with items bought or won from mission. At the same time it has a very good pvp system, where you can fight for supremacy, city vs city, or you can also be attacked ( or vice versa) on your adjacent territories, but not all can be attacked. Besides these, you can quest for rewards and xp alone or with friends, guild. A very interesting approach, and well done, but on free accounts it’s a little harder because units come from trading cards on the in game market.
7. Project Torque
Project is an online racing game, I can’t call it a mmorpg since it’s based on lobby system, but an entertaining game. Having the possibility to race, compete with other players, win credits and buy new cars, and customize them, leads to a fun experience. Also the racing system is well designed. It really delivers the feeling that you are on the road racing for the number one spot.
8. Navy Field
Navy Field is a Massively Multi Player Online Tactics Game. Based on naval combat during WWII, Navy Field is unique in its attention to detail.
Similar to Project Torque, Navy Field is based on lobby system so it’s not really massive, but fights within this lobbies system can go with over 40 players at the same time.
This game will attract fans of the naval battles of the WWII, where they can take control over massive warships from destroyers to battleships and have complete control over their equipment and crew.
9. Shattered Galaxy
Shattered Galaxy is a massively multiplayer online real-time strategy game, which combines the excitement of real-time strategy with the character development of role-playing in a persistent online world.
An old mmorts game, but still very interesting and entertaining, which offers the chance to control small armies of robots, and participate with them in the war of against the other factions. While doing this, the units can be upgraded, equipped with different items, and they also gain experience, same as your commander. Unfortunately the graphics engine is 2D and pretty old, supporting only 800x600 resolutions.
10. Dungeon Runners
Dungeon Runners is an free mmorpg game where you’ll explore dangerous dungeons, battle ferocious monsters and discover incredible weapons, artifacts and loot.
Dungeon Runners it a hack and slash mmorpg game with a twist, with a similar system of loot and combat as Diablo series, and a bunch of funny features, that can keep a few fans of this genre happy, but not for long unfortunately .
This is a very useful article. Thanks much. I found it at MassiveBlips.com, a new portal for MMOs, a site my team and I have worked on for the last couple months.
