Pirates of the Burning Sea - ReviewIn the era of orcs and elfs, a few mmorpg developers try not to enter in this mmorpg standardization and they develop games fun, complex, and interesting based on different themes, themes that haven’t been explored by thousands of Big Developers. One example is Pirates of the Burning Sea. Of course by doing that they didn’t get many subscribers, since you have to use your brain in these games, but they have enough to get a profit and to keep the game alive.

Pirates of the Burning Sea is a naval mmorpg based on the conflict in the Caribean Sea between England, Spain, France in the year 1720. As a player you get to choose to be a captain of these nations or a Pirate. Yarr!

Pirates of the Burning Sea - ReviewBy entering the New World, you are introduced to game by a few tutorials which are done very well. We started with the tutorial where we learned how to swing a sword, on a ship attacked by somebody. Here we learned that the combat is made from 3 parts, preparatory attack to unbalanced the opponent’s guard, and then we use a normal attack and a finishing move if needed and available, pretty neat.

On the sea combat tutorial you get to learn how to sail and engage a few pirate ships, which is simple and enjoyable, but I guess hard to master it, and then you will be moved to first town, and of course here we stopped at the tavern for some rum.

On the way to the tavern you can meet the town crier which provides a lot of stuff about the game, available anytime which we found very accessible. Characters that are meant not to have interaction with you can’t be talked into a discussion, so no trial and error here, running after NPCs. Talking with NPC in each town can bring valuable information from the basics game information, to military strength, world details and other useful information, besides quests, missions.

Towns are very well made, small but great in terms of graphics and atmosphere, people dancing on some random song, people singing for money, or watching some soldiers practicing swords, contributes to the feeling of living virtual world. The atmosphere is right.

Economy revolves around the players, and resources can be bought or traded. To own new ships you need to buy them from other players, or build them on your own. Resources also can be acquired by building a warehouse to stock the booty, or to stock the resources coming from your factories, to make items

Pirates of the Burning Sea - ReviewPlayer vs Players system relies on Victory points, where if a nation port is destabilized by players, the port can be attacked by pirates, and when it gets worse, it turns into a state of contention and Port Battle will occur between the defending nation and the nation that managed to inflict the most damage to their stability. If the defending nation is defeated, the conquering nation will take control over the port, and the defenders will have to pay extra taxes when producing goods. Here low level players can help by doing missions against the port, and high level players will participate in the battlers. So everybody can help. When a nation reaches the highest amount of Victory Points in the system, he will be rewarded and then situation and ownership of ports will be reverted to the original values and a new conflict will begin.

While land battles are not the best feature at this point, because of lack of animation frames on some attacks, and they seems so instant, sea battles are incredible. It just great to see when you are in sea battle your crew on the ship, and their action based on what you ordered, cannons firing their iron balls, explosions on impacts. Good stuff!

With the ability to develop an empire, alone or with a society (guild), participate on your nation path to conquer the Caribbean, with glorious sea battles, and decent land combat, Pirates of the Burning Sea is great naval mmorpg and players that are fans to naval battles and the Caribbean theme in 1700, will love this game.

Ahoy matey! Wurz is my RUM?!
