If you WOW life has become anything like mine you have a lot of friends playing on multiple servers. While you may not have been friends with everyone in that old guild you were in way back in 2004, you have stayed in touch with some of them. When Blizzard announced their new Real ID system you saw it as I did: not as much an opportunity for Blizzard to find out more about you and for your gaming acquaintances to now know your real name, but an opportunity to stay in touch with old gaming friends - even if you didn't play WOW together any more.
Blizzard is now taking their Real ID system one step further, and allowing you to party up with your Real ID friends, even if you aren't on the same server.
The system is in a testing phase, which means that it is live, but you may experience bugs. Blizzard has prepared a list of FAQ's for the new system which can be seen here. For information on the Real ID system itself - check out this FAQ.
