Star Trek Online Boldly Going Free to Play

Posted by on

A newly announced free to play model for Star Trek Online will be soon hitting computer screens around the world. Cryptic who have been successful with converting Champions Online from a full fledged subscription system into a free to play title know just what the players want. The successful transition on Champions Online has given them great insight and experience that will help move STO smoothly into the new model. There will of course still be a premium subscription for those that want extra goodies but as of yet there has been no word on what differences there will be between the models. Here is a small post regarding today's announcement.

In a recent Perfect World earnings call, CFO Kelvin Lau stated our intention to adopt a free-to-play business model for Star Trek Online this year and we could not be happier to finally share these exciting plans with you.

Incorporating a free-to-play model into Star Trek Online enables any interested captain to explore the galaxy to his or her heart's delight.
